Tim is the only child of Jack and Janet Drake. His parents were both very successful businesspeople, but had little time to spend raising their child. As a result, Tim grew up with a lot more autonomy than most children. At the age of three, on his family's first--and only--trip to the circus, Tim was witness to the deaths of Dick Grayson's parents, whom he had met before the show. The memory of that day haunted him, and he became obsessed with it. At nine years old, he saw a news-clip of Batman and Robin and recognized Dick as Robin. From there, it was an easy jump to Bruce Wayne as Batman. He kept the secret to himself, though, and stalked Batman with a camera for years, building up an impressive set of scrapbooks. When he was twelve, he met his second cousin, Cissie, for the first time, and through her, the Lane-Kents. Cissie, Tim, and Conner were fast friends, and Tim started to spend time with the Lane-Kents, including weeks with them during the summers. Soon after meeting Cissie, Jason Todd's death prompted Tim to introduce himself to Bruce and Dick, and--with some reluctance--Bruce agreed to start training Tim to be Robin. When Tim's parents died in a ransom attempt when he was fifteen, Bruce took him in and adopted him. |
